It was a Monday; I woke up and hopped out of my bed as usual. It was early, around 6-ish. I was so excited for today as it was my birthday! During my birthday everyone was especially kind to each other which is what I like to see. They rarely fight and they always surprise me with gifts constantly! Who wouldn’t want a birthday like that? Unsurprisingly, since it was Monday, I was off to work, no I wasn’t sad, my colleagues would also surprise me… they are the best of friends! Jane, my older sister, also the boss of the fascinating facts magazine will be surprising me for sure! I was excited. Oh yes and before I continue just a little reminder, I’m Max Tuffin, I go on an amazing adventure with my friends and family. I work for the fascinating facts magazine which is owned by my sister Jane.
Anyways I was off to worked. I left my condo only to see my cousin Julie and my niece and nephew, Gemma and Christopher holding boxes, about to exit the building. “Happy birthday uncle.” My niece and nephew said. “Thank you darlings. Where are you going?” I asked. “We’re moving didn’t mum tell you?” they replied. I pulled Julie out to talk. “Julie! You didn’t tell me you were moving!” “Oh, I must have forgotten to forward you the text. Don’t worry, I’ll text you where we are staying now.” She said. She rushed with her kids out the door waving to me.
I walked to my office as I didn’t know how to drive… yet…. Hopefully. I walked to a bus stop gloomily as I would miss living in the same building with my cousin. When I reached the bus stop a bus should’ve come to pick me up…but it didn’t. I saw a lady wearing a white fluffy scarf, a leopard skin hat, a white ball gown, a white leather jacket, and a pair of white heels getting off her seat at the bus stop. “Ms. Do you know why the bus is not arriving?” I asked grinning. “Ugh! Well, isn’t it obvious? The bus driver is sick, he won’t be driving the bus until he gets better. He probably caught it from that disgusting passenger who barely covered his mouth when he coughed.” She said ever so rudely.
“Oh, okay Ms. May I ask where you are going?” I asked as she was wearing something formal, I wanted to order a taxi to bring her to her destination as I was a gentleman. “Oh, I was off to my best friend’s brother’s birthday. His name I do not know. But my best friend, Jane is going to throw a surprise party for him.” She said. I looked worried, oh why, oh why did I ask her? I ruined the surprise. “Oh dear, I blew my own surprise! Jane is my sister and it’s my birthday today.” I said agitatedly. “Oh dear, you blew your surprise!” she burst into laughter. “Oh, how rude of me, let me introduce myself, my name is Tatiana. I’m Janes's friend, I met her in France…. Anyways I am sure Jane wouldn’t be upset.” She said. Soon after she burst into little giggles.
Tatiana got us a taxi. As we reached the Fascinating Facts building, Jane greeted us saying, “Hey there Max!” “H…hi.” I said. “Jane! Your brother knows about the surprise! He blew it by himself! I’ll give you the details later.” Tatiana said, she laughed and walked into the building with her white Marc Jacobs handbag. “That’s not an issue Max. We have a whole party set for you, come in!” Jane said, I could hear a sad croak in her voice.
I got into my huge office building only to find all my friends and family there. They screamed, “Surprise Max!” Jane replied with, “He knows!” They screamed again but this time said, “Happy unsurprised birthday Max!” I blushed. “Thank you!” The party went swell. Everyone danced and talked. We had spicy nachos with cheese, chicken balls, Popcorn, and many more finger foods.
It all went well until it was time for cake. My grandfather, grandfather Theodore. He is my clumsiest family member. He is such a clutz. As my grandfather brought in the cake, my mum and grandma shouted, “Careful!” This spooked grandpa and made him slip on a bag of chips my brother, Rick had dropped. How do I know it was my brother Rick? Well, he was the only one who ate the chips as he finished them all before the guests could arrive! Anyways my double-chocolate-berry-nice cake plummeted to the ground and all everyone could do was stare in shock. Being the benignant person, my grandfather was he said, “Oh I am so clumsy! I am sorry Max. I really am. Just wait till next year, I promise I won’t drop the cake!” Grandfather said with an embarrassed grin. Tatiana laughed hysterically. I giggled and so did everyone. I was still sad though; I giggle when I don’t know what to do…. Don’t judge me.
After the troublesome party ended, I left. I was tired as everyone was asking me how I felt about the cake incident. Some people were even laughing at me… by some people I mean my brother Rick and his friends. I was so worn out that when I got in my taxi I immediately fell asleep. When I woke up it was already 6 pm. It had been 2 hours since I left the office, and I wasn’t home yet. “Where are we?” I asked. “We’re nearly at your destination sir.” The driver replied. “Hmm, I wonder what’s causing this traffic?” I said. “That condo is closing down today, so everybody living there is leav….” I cut the driver off. “LEAVING! THAT CONDO?! BUT I LIVE THERE!” I replied in shock. “Oh, um.” He stuttered. I couldn’t believe it. I called Julie, “Julie! Did you know the condo is closing down?” She replied with, “Yes, that’s why we moved. Didn’t you read my text?” She asked. “No! You sent me no texts!” I said checking my texts again. Julie checked her phone. “Oh, dear! Looks like I forgot to forward the ‘condo closing’ text to you. I am so sorry…. Listen you can come stay with us.” She said. Just before I could say anything the line cut off. What a horrible day! And an even worst birthday! (At this point I had forgotten it even was my birthday, it was that bad!)
I went into my condo and into my room. Feeling my heart sinking. Knowing that today will be the last day I would be walking through these halls. I entered my room and packed everything. I called my uncle, Jody. He brought his furniture truck over to help me with moving my furniture. I told him to leave all the furniture in his truck until I find a house. He agreed. Apparently, this was my birthday present from him as the moving was free.
I packed 4 suitcases. The first one was red, it fully contained of all my clothes. The second one was pink half of it contained my clothes and the other half had my toiletries. The third one was orange, it had all my pictures, devices, books, stationary, wax pots (my old hobby was making them), and stuff like that. The last suitcase was yellow, the bright vibrant colour indicated that, that suitcase was really important. The yellow suitcase contained my pineapple-pizza night light, my teddy called Mr. Cuddlyini, my ‘monster-away’ spray, my cuddly pillow with Mr. Cuddlyini’s face on it, my cuddly pillow with pizza on it and last but not least, my favourite pizza napkin.
I walked into the halls with my luggage bag. My eyes went teary. I’ve lived here for 6 years! And now I can’t even stay here for one more day. In all my other books or articles, you would find me boasting about my home. I don’t know if I’ll ever find somewhere, I would love as much as here. Just as I was locked my door someone yelled, “Oi! Get outta ‘ere! You’ve gotta go now! We’re closing! Can’t ya see!” He said ever so rudely. “Well, I was just leaving. My cousin who was in the condo chat group forgot to forward me the ‘leave the condo’ message.” I said nicely. “Oh, I don’t care! Just get out!” He said. I couldn’t believe how rude he was, so I replied with “how rude!” He then said, “Ugh! It’s not your birthday or anything! So, I don’t need to be extra polite! But if it’ll make ya leave then: please, just GOO!” He said. “It is my birthday! Oh my, it is my birthday!” I said. I had forgotten all about my birthday. I left in a rush before that rude man could say anything back. I whined. I missed my condo room already. This has got to be the worst birthday ever!
By the time I left my condo for the last time, it was night-time. I didn’t want to be a burden to anyone…but I didn’t want to sleep on the streets. So, I called my sister, Jane. “Hi, Jane.” I said through the phone. “Hi Max, I know it’s your birthday but could you please make this quick? I have to get the dinner reservations sorted out. I can talk more during dinner.” She said. “Dinner!” I remembered. “Did you forget the dinner max?” “N..na..never! I just wanted to know if...if..if I should wear white or blue?” I said… I lied… I actually forgot about the dinner. “Oh, anything is fine. White is classier but blue is more you… make your decision based on that… see you!” she replied.
I couldn’t have my shower before my dinner, so I just went to the local pool. I had a shower there and wore my fancy clothes.
As soon as I reached the restaurant all my family was waiting for me at the table. They were all looking at me weirdly. “Hello everyone. What’s wrong?” I asked. “Anything you want to tell us, Max?” My mum, Coral asked. “N…n…no…not at this point of time,” I said. “Oh, Max! Stop being so humble. We know you're homeless.” my grandma, Vera said. “Huh? Ho..how did you know?” I said surprised. I learned that Julie told everyone. Now everyone was offering me places to stay.
“Stop!” a voice shouted amongst the crowd asking me to sleep over. “I suggest you buy a new house! I will help fund it…. In the meantime, however, my house will be a perfect fit.” Said my...my…. My cousin Milo. Milo is really rich, he rarely comes to visit as he lives far away, out of Blue Sunset bay. He lives in India. 2 of his large mansions are located in India. The other 3 are in different parts of the world.
“Come to your mansion? In India?” I asked. “Yes, we’ll find you a nice little house in Blue sunset Bay while you’re in India.” He said. I didn’t want to go through with the idea, but I needed a house for myself, I don’t want to be a burden to anyone, and I know I wouldn’t be a burden to Milo as he always loves people around, most of all, I never usually see Milo around anymore. So, I agreed.
We had our dinner and that very night Milo brought me to the airport and we got onto his private Jet. I said goodbye to everyone who came to watch. What a birthday it had been.
The next morning, we reached India. As I got off the private Jet, I saw amazing sites, weirdly shapes vehicles, a noisy but fun street, marvelous food stores at every corner, cute animals, and amazing trees and flowers growing in every direction. “Well, this is stupendous I must say!” I said impressed and amazed. I got handed a cone of yummy chickpeas. “I am so excited to have you, Max, it’s not every day where I get to have visitors.
It was around an hour’s drive to Milo’s mansion. As I saw the mansion’s entrance I was in utter shock! There were fleets of stairs and a huge pool on the outside. Palm trees stood tall by the huge house. “Wow!” I exclaimed. “This is my humble home… welcome. Suzy here will show you to your room.” Milo replied. He said he needed to go as he had something to deal with.
“Hi, I am Suzy! I’ll be assisting you throughout your visit.” She exclaimed with a large grin on her face. “Oh, thank you. May I know where my room is?” I asked politely. “Of course! I’ll escort you there right away. Please hand me those heavy bags.” She said. “That’s not necessary. I can carry them” I replied. “No! Leonardo will carry them.” As soon as Suzy said these words a muscley man appeared. “He…here Le...onardo” I said handing him the bags.
Suzy brought me to a room. “Oh, is this my room?” I asked Suzy. “No. This is where we look for some houses for you.” Suzy said frantically. We were in the study. Suzie and I looked at some houses through the computer. Most of the houses weren’t compatible with me. All but one house wasn’t compatible. “This house is great!” I said. “I know! If you like it, we can reserve it till you get back.” Suzy said. Before I nodded, I took one more glance at the house, it cost 2 million! “No Suzy, this is way out of my price range,” I said. Suzy sighed as it had been 3 hours since we started looking for houses. “Well, we can continue tomorrow. Or later today if you’d like.” Suzy said tired but still grinning.
Suzy then brought me to my amazing room. I tell you it’s amazing! Believe me. The room was a dark colour which made it easier to sleep. I was amazed when I saw the huge bed with silky and lustrous sheets. There was a small desk and some paneling, and that's only a bit of the room!
I loved my room so much! It was just so extravagant and spacious. I didn’t have much time to explore my room, which was the best guest room in the whole house because it was nearly dinner, it was 7.
I left my room only to find everyone including Milo waiting for me at the dinner table. “Hello Mr. Max, Dinner is being served, please be seated on your seat,” Suzy said. “Oh, please call me Max,” I said as I sat by Milo. The first course was served, it was 3 scallops served with a divine sauce. “Scrumptious!” I said. “I must say, you’ve outdone yourself, Maurice! You’re getting a raise.” Milo said happily. Maurice, the chef replied with, “If you enjoyed this, then you’ll love the main and dessert. I learned these techniques in France you see, hor-hor.” The main and dessert were even better than the entre!
After dinner, I went to my room and had my daily bubble bath. I then drank my lemon balm tea; yum! I decided to explore my room before I went to sleep. The room was as big as my living room, bedroom and kitchen combined…. Well, my old living room, bedroom, and kitchen.
I looked around my room. It had a king-sized bed with the softest sheets. A cozy rug, reading area, chair, desk, coffee table, a flat-screen tv, a projector, a huge window with soft curtains, a chandelier, a huge bathroom, and a walk-in closet.
I explored the whole room in 15 minutes… but I didn’t enter the walk-in closet yet. As I walked into the closet, I saw lavish clothing and amazing hair, skin, etc. products. I also caught a glimpse of a button beneath the pile of clothes. “I wonder what this does,” I said to myself. Being the curious person I was, I pressed the button. Just as I did so Suzy and Milo entered the room to see if I needed anything. They saw the closet changing into some sort of slide and I was slipping into it! “Ahh Help!!!!!!!” I screamed. Milo grabbed my hand, Suzy grabbed Milo’s to help pull on me. Unfortunately, curiosity killed the cat…. No! We didn’t die! I mean we all got sucked into the slide.
We landed in a weird room. “Oh Max! What have you done!” Milo exclaimed as he dusted him and his kimono. “I pressed the button,” I replied. “Hmm, I didn’t know that was there.” He replied. “Neither did I” Suzy said as she dusted her uniform. We all entered a dark hallway by the place we landed, hoping to get back to my room.
“Where are we? I am scared” I said. My spine tingled every time I took a step. “Pick yourself up! We’ve gotta get out of here.” Suzy said. “Don’t mind Suzy, when she is grumpy she drops formalities” Milo said. “Ohh, I feel stuck, I feel bad,” said. Milo then said something really kind, “Don’t worry Max, I know you claustrophobic and everything, but you have to stay come so we can get out of this sticky situation.” “…. Though its’ his fault we got here in the first place” Suzy whispered.” We walked for 20 minutes, not knowing where or what we were doing. Just as we were walking, I heard something. I looked down as the sound was coming from underneath me. It was a bunny. It was a fluffy white colour and it had brown circles on its eyes! “Oh, how adorable!” I exclaimed.
Everyone’s eyes glittered.
“Tweak, tweak!” The bunny said it looked angry. It whacked its foot on the ground. “Let’s follow it!” Suzy said. We followed the bunny to a door. Inside the door, there was someone… someone who was shouting, “Hopps? Hopps? Tweak if you brought someone.” “Tweak.” The bunny, possibly named Hopps said, or well tweaked. “Oh hoorah! Hoorah! Kind sir or ma’am, release me please! Please o’ please” The voice said. “Oh, I don’t know, he could be dangerous,” Suzy said. Being the timid character Milo was he didn’t say anything. “We’ve got to release him!” I said confidently… which was very rare. We all pulled the heavy metal door open. “It’s made of pure gold!” Milo said. Out came the…the….
Before I continue, I want to make sure you're ready…. Remember you are not dreaming. Out came the most famous and smartest ever Professor Alvis Felix Norm! You don’t know who he is? Are you kidding?! He is my idol! He found so many amazing artifacts ohh, he is amazing! You must have been living under 5 rocks to not know about him! He had unfortunately gone missing 5 years ago.
“Pra…. pro... professor Alvis Felix Norm!” I shouted in disbelief. “I AM YOUR BIGGEST FAN! PLEASE SIGN MY HANDKERCHIEF!” I shouted happily. I grabbed a handkerchief and a pen. Professor Felix signed it for me. “Professor, why were you stuck here?” Milo asked. “Well, you see… 5 years ago I came to this place…. It was an old rundown abandoned hotel which I was staying in for that night. I was hunting for the lost Jem stone. My treasure map said it was somewhere near here. I saw a blue button in the room I was staying, I pressed it and I got sucked into this area. There was something shining in this room, so naturally, I went in it and the door accidentally slammed shut. It was too heavy for me to pull on my own. Luckily this room had a TV, a bed, blanket, a shower, a lifetime supply of soap, salad, pizza, and hamburgers…. Oh, and heaps of gold and money too.” He said.
He lost me at ‘I was hunting for the lost Jem stone.’ “I want to help find the lost Jem stone!” I said eagerly. “Okay! That’s great! Let’s go now! I wasn’t able to explore for these 5 years. Hurry!” He said jumping up in the air. He led us out of here and brought Hopps with him. We managed to get out of the secret room leaving all that was there.
As soon as we left though we were led out of the mansion and the professor was very concentrated on something. We didn’t talk as the professor seemed very intensive. We passed a noisy street and we saw multiple food streets close down as it was night. He soon led us to a cavern not far from the mansion. “The Lost Jem should be in there. I can’t go in though, I mean I can, but I need someone smaller and tinier to come with me as they’ll have to squish into a small, cramped area.” He said. I hid myself behind Milo and Suzy but that made me seem smaller. “You!” The professor said pointing at me. I realized my mistake. I was already the smallest, hiding behind everyone made me smaller! Dumb-dumb me!
“But I’m claustrophobic,” I said. “Get over ya fears! I’ve been in a room, not so big for 5 years and I am fine! If you’re stuck, we’ll get you out, promise!” Professor said. “Yes, Max! We’ll get you out no matter what!” Milo exclaimed. “…. If you get stuck that is.”
I decided to go in. The professor chatted with me for a bit, to get my mind off the stuffy space. “Well, here’s where we depart. Just crawl in, grab the jewel and we’re done with the mission!” He said enthusiastically.
Hesitant I crawled. I crawled for 4 minutes without breathing normally. I panted due to fear and even shed a few tears…oh how embarrassing. After 4 minutes I could stand up, I saw the jewel glistening. I grabbed it. “I believe I just discovered something!” I shouted…. That was just when I realized because I touched the jewel, I set out a boo-by-trap! A boulder came right at me! Pretty cliché, but that’s what happened. I squeezed through the hole so the boulder couldn’t get to me, luckily my hand was still clutching the jewel. Just then the floor heated! The traps were continuing.
I crawled as fast as I could, instead of 4 minutes I came out in just 59.8 second! “You’ve got it!” The professor exclaimed! “I am so proud!” I exclaimed with joy and a little shimmer in my eyes. “So am I.” Milo said. He patted me on the back. “Good job! Max (I told him my name when we were chatting)! Pretty petty adventure if you ask me. Oh, now you get to name it! What will you call it?” I replied with, “I’ll name it Jem of courage!” “Great!” Suzy squealed. “No, it’s stupendous!” Milo added with a wink. “Tweak….” Hopps said. (It translated to, ‘okay I guess.’)
For my courage, the professor gave me all the gold he found in his 5 years in that room. This way I could buy the house I wanted badly and still have a lot to spare! The house I bought was a huge one! Now the professor and I are friends. Can you imagine? Being friends with your idol?
The day I had to leave India to Blue Sunset Bay, I thanked Milo, though he had limited say in this adventure, he played a big part. He took me in when I was homeless. I was so grateful. “I enjoyed our time together, Thank you! I hope we can have more adventures together!” I said ever so affectionately. “Of course we can! See you, Max! Visit soon!” He said. Now I am at my new house, (which I love), writing a story for my new book series and a preview for the Fascinating facts magazine. I’ll also be writing a biography about the professor and I’ll be publishing his autobiography.
See you dearest reader in my next tale and adventure! Bye!
